"Capital Shopping Centres signs Krispy Kreme for final unit at MetrOasis
20 April 2012
Krispy Kreme has been announced as the final tenant for MetrOasis -the 15,000 sq ft catering development which is currently being built at Capital Shopping Centre’s (CSC) Metrocentre in Gateshead.
The doughnut specialist will take the final unit within the catering led development, which will sit between Metrocentre and the adjacent Metro Retail Park providing a direct link between the two.
Krispy Kreme will open a 4,000 sq ft drive thru Hotlight store at MetrOasis. The format, one of which is in every region, offers the ultimate Krispy Kreme experience with customers able to see the doughnut making process taking place from start to finish.
Krispy Kreme joins Starbucks who will open a standalone 1,800 sq ft drive thru unit and Mitchells & Butlers who are opening two restaurants on the new development. These include a 5,100 sq ft Harvester restaurant – their first new build Harvester in the North East -and a 4,050 sq ft Toby Carvery.
MetrOasis was originally granted planning last summer and work began in January. It is due to be completed in the autumn and will create 230 new jobs.
Martin Breeden, Asset Management Director for CSC, said: “As the building work continues apace on MetrOasis we are thrilled to announce the signing of our final tenant for the scheme which further enhances the catering offer at Metrocentre for our 23 million shoppers who visit the centre each year.”
Judith Denby, Chief Marketing Officer at Krispy Kreme, said: “We’ve seen long standing demand for a store in the North East from our fans in the region so we’re delighted to be part of the MetrOasis development. MetrOasis is a fantastic location for what will be the 50th Krispy Kreme in the UK. The Hotlight Store will feature Krispy Kreme’s famous Doughnut Theatre, which enables customers to watch doughnuts being made right before their eyes and will produce over 100,000 fresh doughnuts a week, creating 80 new jobs for the region. “
The Metrocentre Partnership was represented by Jones Lang LaSalle. Morgan Williams represented Krispy Kreme."(copied from http://www.capital-shopping-centres.co.uk/news/csc_news/?id=117235)
